Police shoot, kill loose pit bull

WILKES-BARRE - A Wilkes-Barre police officer shot a pit bull that was running wild and acting aggressively at the River Common on Saturday afternoon, just days after Mayor Tom Leighton announced the city is cracking down on vicious dogs in public areas.

Officers received several reports of a pit bull roaming unleashed in the area of South River and Market streets around 5:18 p.m. Officers were unable to gain control of the dog or locate its owner. It reportedly charged at an officer.

BSL! Take a look at what they consider "vicious breeds". Your dog may be on there! It will never stop at one breed and banning them is not the answer! Responsible pet owners and leash laws are! Dogs are descended from wolves and with proper training or neglect can be a vicious animal -period.75 dogs on the BSL list!

The police should find the owner and lock him/her up for a few days. Dogs running loose kill and maim people every day. There is no excuse for it. Don't wait for the dog to attack and then worry about it.
