MILFORD - With the first half being a defensive struggle, Wallenpaupack coach Mark Watson decided to unveil his "Wildcat" formation.

Turned out to be a good choice.

After scoring no touchdowns in the first half, Wallenpaupack broke out with five scores in the second half giving the Buckhorns a 35-11 victory over Delaware Valley on Friday night.

Wallenpaupack clinched a berth in the District 2-4-11 Class AAAA playoffs for the first time in school history, and spoiled Delaware Valley's bid to share the LFC Division I title.

"This is huge for the Wallenpaupack football program" Watson said. "This is also probably the biggest win of my coaching career."

After holding Wallenpaupack's Joe DeFebo to 49 yards in the first half, the Delaware Valley defense could not contain him after he lined up and took a direct snap.

He swept around the left end for a 55-yard score on the first play of the second half to break a 3-3 tie. DeFebo would later add a 67-yard touchdown run that gave the Buckhorns a 28-3 lead with less than seven minutes left in the fourth quarter.

DeFebo ended the night with 300 rushing yards and four touchdowns and now has 5,308 yards in his career to rank fourth on the area's all-time list.

"They just lined up and whipped us in the second half," Delaware Valley coach Keith Olsommer said.

Leading, 10-3, going into the fourth quarter, DeFebo scored on the next three Wallenpaupack possessions to break open the game.

"With the game on the line you have to give the ball to your playmakers," Watson said. "Great players make great plays and Joe certainly came through for us tonight."

Delaware Valley freshman quarterback Bryan Schor completed 22 passes to eight different receivers for 227 yards and one touchdown.

Kory Wilson led Delaware Valley, which is headed to the Eastern Conference playoffs, with seven catches for 80 yards and a touchdown.
