Scouting report

After a scheduled off day on Wednesday, the Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre Yankees begin a five-game home-and-away series against the Pawtucket Red Sox tonight in Pawtucket. The first two games are at Pawtucket's McCoy Stadium, and the series moves to PNC Field for the final three contests, Saturday through Monday.

Tonight: Yankees RHP Sergio Mitre (2-0, 2.88) vs. Pawtucket RHP Clay Buchholz (5-1, 1.90), 6:15 at McCoy Stadium.

Friday: Yankees RHP Josh Towers (2-5, 4.89) vs. Pawtucket LHP Kris Johnson (3-7, 6.09), 6:15 at McCoy Stadium.

Saturday: Yankees LHP Kei Igawa (6-3, 3.80) vs. Pawtucket RHP Charlie Zink (4-7, 4.48), 7:05 p.m. at PNC Field.

Sunday: Yankees RHP Ivan Nova (1-0, 0.00) vs. Pawtucket RHP Michael Bowden (3-4, 3.39), 5:05 p.m. at PNC Field.

Monday: Yankees TBA vs. Pawtucket RHP Enrique Gonzalez (7-7, 5.97), 7:05 p.m. at PNC Field.

After a loss on Tuesday, Pawtucket is 3.5 games behind the Yankees for the North Division lead. ... Tuesday's loss went to Monday's starter Enrique Gonzalez who allowed eight runs on 12 hits through five innings. It was his second straight start allowing at least 10 hits through five innings. ... Clay Bucholz has been arguably the best pitcher in the International League and took his first loss last week. When the Yankees played Pawtucket in May, they did not have to face Buchholz. ... Left-handed reliever Billy Traber, who spent last season shuttling between New York and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, has a 2.23 ERA out of the Pawtucket bullpen. ... Outfielder and first baseman Jeff Bailey, last year's International League MVP, was called up to Boston on Tuesday.
