September callups mean Triple-A players going to the big leagues, but they often also mean Double-A players going to Triple-A.

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees are sure to lose a few players when the major league rosters expand Tuesday, but they may find some replacements from Trenton.

"We've got Plan Bs and Cs to deal with whatever September callups we may or may not have," vice president of baseball operations Mark Newman said.

Some of those Plan Bs and Cs might be already on the Triple-A roster, where infielders Doug Bernier and Eric Duncan, catcher Brian Peterson and reliever Kevin Whelan could come off the disabled list to fill September holes.

Other backup plans may be waiting in Trenton, though Newman said there are no Double-A players guaranteed a promotion to Triple-A.

"There's nobody that's coming here absolutely," Newman said.

Some Double-A names to keep in mind as Tuesday's roster expansion approaches:

P.J. Pilittere - The catcher spent much of the season with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and was sent to Trenton only after catcher Jesus Montero went on the disabled list.

Eduardo Nunez - The top healthy prospect in the Trenton lineup, Nunez was the only Thunder player named to the Eastern League postseason all-star team. He's hit for average and power, but has drawn few walks and has committed 30 errors as the team's regular shortstop.

Josh Schmidt - Fifteen pitchers have thrown at least 30 innings for Trenton this season, and Schmidt is the only one with an ERA below 2.00. He can be used as a long man and could give valuable innings if the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre bullpen is depleted.

Zach McAllister - Trenton's top starting pitcher, McAllister entered Saturday's game with a 2.40 ERA and 92 strikeouts. He's one of the top pitching prospects in the system and could fill a spot in the Triple-A rotation, either in the event a starter is called to New York or a starter is used to fill a spot in the bullpen.
