DUNMORE - In a game that featured numerous momentum swings, the final and biggest shift went in favor of Lackawanna Trail.

Rallying late, the Lions pushed past Holy Cross, 39-29, Saturday in a Lackawanna Football Conference Division III game at Monsignor Crotti Field.

Trailing for the first time in the game early in the fourth quarter, Lackawanna Trail responded and scored three touchdowns in a six-minute span to defeat the Crusaders and post its first win of the season.

The first touchdown of the fourth quarter came on a 73-yard run by Sean Fricke. The senior rushed for 235 yards and three touchdowns.

"Sean has been doing it for us all year," Lackawanna Trail coach Steve Jervis said. "He really stepped it up today when we really needed him."

Lackawanna Trail followed up that touchdown with two straight interceptions by Chris Dixon and Marvess Rosiak and turned both into touchdowns.

"Today it came down to a lot of big plays," Fricke said. "They had some big plays and we got knocked down but we got back up."

Fricke's first touchdown came in the first quarter on a 4-yard run. Holy Cross tied the score on the first play of the second quarter as Rob Heyen scored on an 11-yard run.

With the game tied at 7, Lackawanna Trail drove down the field and scored the go-ahead touchdown as time expired. Quarterback Erich Aten found Dixon in the corner of the end zone with a 17-yard touchdown pass with no time left on the clock.

"Erich managed the ball and the clock very well at the end of the half," Jervis said.

Holy Cross scored on its first possession of the second half as Michael Paddock hit Louis Giancopoulos for a 33-yard touchdown pass. The extra point failed and Trail led 14-13.

Fricke scored his second touchdown of the game on the Lions' first possession of the half on a 4-yard run. The extra point failed and Lackawanna Trail led 20-13.

On Holy Cross' next possession, the Crusaders featured Tyler Hinkley, as the sophomore ran the ball on four of five plays and finally broke free for a 37-yard touchdown run. Travis Graziano ran the ball for the 2-point conversion to give Holy Cross its first lead.

Lackawanna Trail fumbled on its next possession but stopped Holy Cross on fourth-and-1 at the 27-yard line.

On the Lion's first play from scrimmage, Fricke raced 73 yards for the go-ahead score.

"It was very nice to get a win," Jervis said. "We are a young team and we just try and keep the kids positive and keep improving. They are going to take their lumps and pay their dues but I think it will all pay off in the end."
