Elk Lake falls short at cross country championships; several local runners earn medals

HERSHEY - Elk Lake's bid for a repeat of a state championship fell short Saturday at the PIAA cross country championships. The Warriors finished third in the Class AA standings, with 135 points. York Suburban, from District III, won with 76 points.

Individually, several local runners earned state medals.

In Class AA boys, Aaron Wilkinson, of Valley View, finished fourth in 16:53. Elk Lake's Mike Bedell finished 23rd in 17:16.

In Class AA girls, Maria Trowbridge, of Elk Lake, placed ninth in 19:46, and Blue Ridge's Allison Hall was 11th in 19:49.

In Class AAA boys, Reece Ayers, of Tunkhannock, finished ninth in 16:23. North Pocono senior Victor Costello just missed a state medal, finishing 26th in 16:44. The top 25 finishers in each class earn state medals.
