AROUND TOWN: Did ESPN celeb have red or white pizza from Old Forge?

Old Forge was all a-twitter on Saturday after ESPN's Jeremy Schaap revealed that he had been in Old Forge for pizza. Schaap twittered this message: "Tried the pizza yesterday in Old Forge, Penn., just outside Scranton. More than lives up to the hype."
The big question remains ... where? Clearly, Schaap had heard of the pizza here. He was in Los Angeles the day before for an interview, and unless I misread Mapquest, I'm pretty sure there is no direct route from the left coast.
So far, we've been unable to confirm that Schaap was here to do an expose on the power of pizza on small-town athletics.
Schaap, a six-time Emmy winner, is not the only celeb to recently visit the Pizza Capital of the World. Early '60s pop idol Bobby Rydell, famous for Volare among his five gold records, also stopped for a tray two weeks ago.
Thanks, Father
Wow! Knew that when Father Joseph McShane had some juice when he was president of the University of Scranton, but his connections obviously go well beyond that. Now the president of Fordham University, Father McShane threw out the first pitch at Wednesday's Yankees-Seattle Mariners game, then gave his blessing to Yanks catcher Jorge Posada.
Later in the game, Posada caught Franklin Gutierrez stealing when the Seattle baserunner stopped after a 2-2 pitch that he was ball four. Coincidence? We think not.
The mention of Fordham reminds me to send the area's best wishes to Monsignor Joseph Quinn, whose latest assignment with the Catholic church will take him to Fordham.
Nationwide time
Doesn't seem possible it's only seven weeks until the Nationwide Tour arrives in town for the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic. Tournament chairman Paul Taramelli and co-chairman Leslie Cadden are working their tails off, and it doesn't hurt their cause to have guys like Zach Johnson and Lucas Glover play our event and soon after go on to win a major. It just validates the point that the second-best tour in the world will be in town Aug. 23-29.
As always, volunteers are needed to help pull off an event of this magnitude. The number's 348-2900 if you can help. By the way, volunteering guarantees you a front-row seat to see some of the best players in the world.
