A Scranton woman was sentenced Friday to 45 months in federal prison for her role in a drug ring that sold large amounts of heroin.

U.S. District Judge Edwin Kosik imposed the sentence on Tesha Spindler, 30, of 1228 Penn Ave. She pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting a drug ring that bought heroin in New Jersey and sold it in Lackawanna County.

Ms. Spindler was one of 15 people charged by a federal grand jury with participating in the drug conspiracy, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

"Her role in it was rather minor," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa. "Sometimes she was acting as a courier or helped distribute it locally."

Shawn Isom, formerly of 718 Pittston Ave., Scranton, another member of the ring, was sentenced to 10 years, Mr. Sempa said.

Mrs. Isom was charged with conspiracy to distribute more than a kilogram of heroin and marijuana, possession with intent to distribute heroin and marijuana, carrying firearms in connection with drug trafficking and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.

The charges followed an investigation from November 2004 to early 2006.

Lucky girl, she'll eat better, and have better health care then most residents of Scranton (who will also be paying for her cable TV in prison). Keep up the good work politicians & Government workers.

They are starting to emerge. The names of Republican candidates who might take a shot at knocking off Democratic U.S. Rep. Chris Carney next year are popping up after months of a virtually blank field. We heard a half dozen names this week, but so far co
