Checkpoints to be conducted

DUNMORE - Sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols will occur over the holiday weekend in Carbondale Twp., Roaring Brook Twp. and Archbald, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The Lackawanna County Sobriety Checkpoint Program is administered through the Luzerne County Probation Services with funding provided by PennDOT.

Police officers running the roving patrols will be out in force to enhance public safety and advise the motoring public of the dangers of drinking and driving.

Free coffee at I-81 rest areas

SCRANTON - People traveling this weekend will be able to take a free coffee break at interstate rest areas.

In Lackawanna County, free coffee will be available at the northbound Interstate 81 rest area between exits 202 and 206, and southbound between exits 211 and 206.

In Luzerne County, coffee will be available at the northbound rest area between exits 155 and 159 and the southbound rest area between exits 159 and 155.
