50 years ago, Amedio Pancotti of Exeter was awarded the Carnegie Hero Medal for saving the lives of six miners in the Knox Coal Mine Disaster. Mr. Pancotti was one of 35 people nationwide to have received the honor at that time.

25 years ago, a piece of glass was found in a piece of bubble gum at a Halloween party at Hilltop Manor in South Side. Organizers purchased the gum from a store in Moosic. Police contacted the store and all the gum on the store shelves was removed.

10 years ago, the state Department of Environmental Protection sponsored a recycling fashion show at the Mall at Steamtown. Models wore clothing designed by local residents using recycled materials such as plastic soda bottles and playing cards. Almanac
