For the first time, Lackawanna College alumni are officially being invited home.

The college is hosting its first homecoming this week, which includes a dedication of the school's newest building, as well as a cookout, reception and football game.

"It's something we want to do every year now," President Ray Angeli said. "It's a big undertaking for a small school."`

While the college has previously had a homecoming football game, the increasing number of alumni and the growing campus made school officials want to expand the events, Mr. Angeli said.

Also invited to the events are about 200 Bethel University alumni. In the 1960s and early 1970s, students from Lackawanna Junior College were able to transfer credits to the Tennessee school to receive four-year degrees.

More than 100 people are expected at the dedication of the Francis X. Healey Academic Center, 415 N. Washington Ave., today. Mr. Healey began teaching at the school in 1965, and remains an instructor and director of cooperative education.

Events include:

- Today: Francis X. Healey Center dedication, 4 p.m.; presentation by journalist and Scranton native Jeff Birnbaum on the state of Wall Street, 6:30, Mellow Theater.

- Friday: Student and alumni cookout, 11 a.m., student parking lot, 501 Vine St.; homecoming concert, Mellow Theater, 6 to 7 p.m.; all-class reception, 6:30 to 8, Reception Hall, 501 Vine St.; alumni football mixer, 8 to 10, Backyard Ale House, 523 Linden St.

- Saturday: Tailgate luncheon and football game, Valley View stadium, 901 Main St., Peckville, $10. Game only, $10. Lunch is 10:30 a.m. to noon; game starts at noon; homecoming post-game party, Stirna's Restaurant, 120 W. Market St., Scranton, 3 to 6 p.m.

Registration is required for events.

All who wish to attend should leave wallets and valuables at home to minimize the odds of being robbed at knife point by one of the football players.

Are they going to parole any former students so they can participate in the festivities?
