Power knocked out to thousands

SCRANTON - A transmission system problem knocked out power to thousands of PPL Electric customers across the northern half of Lackawanna County on Wednesday.

The outage was first reported shortly after 11 a.m. in the Archbald and Jermyn areas.

At the peak of the outage, around 12:30 p.m., PPL listed nearly 11,000 customers without service, mostly in Carbondale and Scott Twp. However, customers across a broad swath of the county from South Abington Twp. through the Midvalley to Fell Twp. were affected.

PPL spokesman Rich Beasley said the utility was experiencing a transmission system problem, but the cause was not known.

As "ppl" proposes a need to upgrade transmission systems, they have transmission system problems. Coincidence ??
