SCRANTON - A transmission system problem knocked out power to thousands of PPL Electric customers across the northern half of Lackawanna County today.

The outage was first reported shortly after 11 a.m. in the Archbald and Jermyn areas.

At the peak of the outage, around 12:30 p.m., PPL listed nearly 11,000 customers without service, mostly in Carbondale and Scott Twp.

However, customers across a broad swath of the county from South Abington Twp. through the Midvalley to Fell Twp. were affected at one time or another.

PPL spokesman Rick Beasley said the utility was experiencing a transmission system problem, but the cause was not immediately known.

My power came back on around 12:30 pm. That was after it flickered on and off quite a few times. It still continued to flicker just a few times from 12:30-2:30.

Ok, make it eight times. The customer service rep I spoke to said that we will probably find out what is causing the problem first before they (reps) do. I told her about the Times article and what Rich Beasley said and she didn't know anything about transmission problems. Not her fault, but, what overall customer service and like Buck said, they will say they need to raise the rates because of the problems.

Please raise the rates PPL so we can continue to experience these unknown cause problems!
