SCRANTON - A bakery in Minooka received minor damage when a sport utility vehicle slammed into the building today.

The accident happened around 8 a.m. at Minooka Pastry Shop, 3276 Birney Ave.

The driver of the SUV told police he was forced off the road by another vehicle, causing him to crash into the northeast corner of the bake shop.

Minooka Pastry owner Bob Zakreski said it was the second time in three years a vehicle has run into the building.

"Unfortunately it's going to take someone getting killed for anyone to notice."

I'm afraid that this comment is far too true. Cars travel up and down that stretch FAR too fast. It's no better on the Cedar Ave. side other than the parking situation not being as bad...of course drivers take advantage of that by driving even faster on that side. Crossing any of those intersections is really taking your life into your own hands, whether it be in a car or on foot.

Hey Chris - maybe you can keep a few fire houses open with the money collected from all the speeding tickets that will be given out. Birney Ave in Minooka is a gold mine. Unfortunately it's going to take someone getting killed for anyone to notice.

I hate driving on that section of Birney Avenue. Drivers are speeding, cars are parked on both sides, people parked in front of the bakery pull right out into traffic without even looking.

That road should not have a passing zone. I don't know how the people who live on that road can stand it. Everyone (who lives there) should petition for the passing zone to be removed, there is no need for it anyway.

My daughter gets the school bus right in front of that bakery every morning, and I am always worried about the speed at which cars come down that street and try to pass the bus while they are boarding it!! Something should be done!! It's not a race track, but you wouldn't know it when standing there.

Speeders are one thing, but the parking situation is also out of hand. If you're going to allow parking on both sides of Birney Avenue, make that section a one-lane road. There's no room to pass there, anyway.

I live in that area and it is long over due for the police(Scranton And Moosic) to start cracking down on speeders and eratic drivers in that area. It puts the fear of God into you when you have to slow down to make a turn or cross over the street.
