As expected, two new faces on Dunmore Council

As predicted in the primary, one Dunmore Council incumbent and two newcomers will take seats on the board in January, according to unofficial election votes.

Council President Timothy Burke had a repeat performance of the May primary, when he took home the most votes. He was followed by Gene Ruddy and Carol Scrimalli.

All three Democrats ran unopposed.

"It was a good win for all three candidates," Mr. Ruddy said Tuesday night. "We'll have to put Dunmore in the right direction."

The new council members will be faced with addressing Dunmore's financial problems soon after taking their seats. The borough has more than $15 million in long-term debt, and the current council has had to be creative in finding ways to pay bills through the end of the year.

"I just know that we're going to put the residents of Dunmore first and be fiscally responsible," Mr. Ruddy said. "We owe that much to the residents of Dunmore, and I firmly believe that."

The only contested race in Dunmore was tax collector, which went to Louis A. Paciotti Jr., who beat former Councilman Joseph Talutto, according to unofficial results.
