Midvalley election results

Jessup voters on Tuesday seemed to approve a plan for higher taxes to improve roads.

Incumbents Margaret Alunni and James Brunozzi breezed to re-election after both said Jessup's first tax increase in 20 years would be the only way to pave the borough's streets.

Borough officials estimate a 4- to 6-mill increase is necessary to do the work.

Jessup voters also turned away controversial two-term incumbent Councilman Jack "Red" Mancak in favor of incumbent Nick Marino and newcomer Joseph Mellado.

Mr. Mancak, who lost the Democratic primary in May but won a Republican nomination, was convicted in 2006 of harassing a judge of elections at a polling place during the primary election that year.

Two Midvalley mayors apparently survived strong challenges Tuesday, including a vigorous write-in result.

Democratic Throop Mayor Stanley Lukowski eked out an apparent 18-vote win over challenger Wayne Williams and Archbald Democratic Mayor Edward Fairbrother apparently turned back David Moran's write-in bid by nine votes.

Archbald Councilman Jeff Munley was re-elected and incumbent John Altier was ousted as Kenneth Propst and William Durkin captured the two other council seats.

Democratic Dickson City Tax Collector Anthony Adamitis defeated Stanley Michalik for a new term, and in the Valley View School Board race in Archbald, incumbents Ellen Neilsen and Tom Owen turned back a challenge by Steven Krahl.

Can someone please tell me who Jeanette Acciare-Mariani is and what she has done for Blakely Borough? I've lived here for almost 10 years now and have yet to see her or see her accomplish something.....

Owen can't even spell Valley View.

I wish Tom Owen was knocked off by Steven Krahl. Owen is just out to promote his son's paving business. Both are corrupt. They received paving contracts from Valley View. Corruption.
