PALMYRA TWP. - One person was killed and four others, including two children, were injured Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Route 6 just west of Hawley.

Pending notification of family, state police are withholding the name of the person who died.

According to state police, that person was driving a 2001 Acura sport utility vehicle west on Route 6 just after 2 p.m. when it crossed into the eastbound lane and into the path of a 2004 Dodge truck driven by Craig Geier, 36, of Bristol.

Hawley Fire Department personnel had to extricate Mr. Geier and the driver of SUV from their vehicles.

Mr. Geier, who suffered moderate injuries, was flown to Community Medical Center.

Michelle Geier, 38, a 7-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl were passengers in the Dodge and were transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene by Wayne County Deputy Coroner Etta Day.

The crash closed Route 6 from Hawley to White Mills for about two hours, according to Hawley Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Bates.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call state police at 253-7126 and speak with Trooper John Chervanka.

Mary, they do it all the time. My favorite is when a picture of the crashed vehicle is shown here, followed with the article stating the person is not being identified pending notification of family.

The state police are withholding the name until they inform the family. Why do you have to announce what kind of vehicle the victim was driving? Once again, you are telling the public more info than it needs to know.
