OLD FORGE - The borough has received word that it will get two grants, totaling $660,000, for road improvements and the construction of a recreation park near the school complex.

Borough Manager MaryLynn Bartoletti said she was notified Tuesday that the borough is the recipient of a $160,000 federal grant, which will be administered by the state Department of Transportation, for road improvements.

She said the borough must match 20 percent of the money, which liquid-fuels funds can be used for.

The money can be used for paving, curb ramps that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, lighting or other improvements that fall under those categories, according to Mrs. Bartoletti.

Specific roads identified in the grant for improvements are Sampson, Powell, Josephine, Railroad, Baker, Drake, Dick, Union and Connell streets, and Dunn, Pittston and McClure avenues.

Mrs. Bartoletti said there could be more streets added.

She said the borough has also received a $500,000 state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project grant to use toward work on the borough recreation park that is under construction near the school complex.

In its entirety, the park will span about 11 acres and include a walking trail, playground areas, maintenance building with restrooms, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, pavilions and parking lots.

The work is being done in several phases.

Also, the borough was previously awarded a $500,000 Department of Community and Economic Development grant and a $150,000 grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for the park.
