Most weekends, E.J. Dougher can be found entertaining the masses at weddings and other fun-filled occasions throughout Northeast Pennsylvania.
This weekend, though, the man who most locals know as E.J. the D.J. will be spinning records at a celeb-filled fundraiser in New Jersey.
On Friday, Mr. Dougher will be at The Estate at Florentine Gardens in Rivervale, N.J., donating his services to the Angels for Hope Gala benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Tickets to the event are $200 and available by calling 212-239-3239 or visiting www.stjude.org/angelsforhope.
Mr. Dougher got the high-profile gig through his good friend, popular soap opera actress Martha Byrne, a longtime St. Jude Professional Advisory Board member.
"Every year, she has this charity event for St. Jude's," said Mr. Dougher of Ms. Byrne, a two-time Daytime Emmy Award winner who recently joined the cast of "General Hospital" after playing Lily Snyder on "As the World Turns" for more than two decades.
"She plans it. She's the one who gets all the soap opera people there," he said.
In addition to Ms. Byrne, other celebrities set to attend the event include: Kelley and Jon Hensley, Michael Park and Terri Colombino of "As The World Turns"; supermodels Kim Alexis and Maggie Rizer; former New York Ranger Ron Duguay; New Jersey Devils defenseman Ken Daneyko; and comedian and actor Joe Piscopo.
"It's a great gig," said Mr. Dougher, a former professional actor who met Ms. Byrne when the two starred in the independent film, "The Marksman," more than a decade ago.
"We got to be very good friends," he said. "She's seen me perform as a DJ."
While Mr. Dougher and his wife have attended the gala for the past several years, this is the first time he'll get to perform at it.
With assistance from fellow local DJ Mike Walton, Mr. Dougher will be working from 7 to 11 p.m. Playlist-wise, he pretty much has carte blanche to do whatever he wants.
"Pretty much we'll read the crowd and go from there," Mr. Dougher said. "We're going to have Piscopo and Michael Park come up and sing."
"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "And it's going to help a lot of kids."
