Ruth Havens celebrated her 101st birthday on April 25 at Bethany Village Senior Living Community in Bethany.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Walter and Mary Havens, Ms. Havens had an older sister, Laura, who is deceased. She lives at Bethany Village with her younger sister, Virginia. Although she grew up in Brooklyn, Ms. Havens often recalls fond memories of the family's summer home in Narrowsburg, N.Y.

She said her family spent a lot of time at the summer home and she called it "the good life."

Ms. Havens, who never married, worked as a secretary and, after retiring, she moved to Honesdale with her sister, Virginia. In June of 2000, the sisters moved into Bethany Village, where they share a room and have a cat, Tippy.
